Available Positions
House President (Student Live-In Role)
The House President role is a student live-in position, where you will play a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive community within your residence, supporting and advocating for their students in residence, and organizing events and activities, serving as a liaison between residents and ResSoc. This position provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain leadership experience while contributing to the well-being of their peers.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Overseeing residence activities and events.
Acting as a direct support for residence students.
Managing and creating content for ResSoc social media channels.
Eligibility Requirements:
All applicants must:
Be an upper-year Queen’s University student enrolled in full-time studies for the entire 2024-2025 academic year;
Be legally entitled to work in Canada or hold valid authorization (e.g. student visa);
Be willing to reside in the residence building assigned to them by the Core Executive team (President, Vice President of Society Operations, Vice President of Residence Operations) for both the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 semesters;
Have had at least one year of experience in Queen’s residence as a student and/or staff;
Be available to move into residence and fully attend mandatory Residence Staff Training on-campus at Queen’s University during the last two weeks of August 2024 (exact staff move-in and training start date TBA);
Assist during student move-in at the beginning of September, and be available to host HP event and fully support ResSoc initiatives during Orientation week;
Provide, at their own expense, a Police Vulnerable Sector Check conducted during the 2024 calendar year before staff move-in in mid-August (exact date TBA); and
Agree to abide by all the Queen’s University Residence Staff Contract terms, Residence Community Standards, and ResSoc staff policies.
Compensation:
House Presidents will receive a gross salary, equivalent to the value of 50% of the ResSoc staff standard room and board fees (approximately $19.31/hr) paid in monthly instalments from September 2024 to April 2025 via direct deposit from ResSoc. This salary is non-negotiable.

Office Administrator (Permanent Staff Role)
The Office Administrator is a permanent staff role, serving as a key part of our team, providing essential administrative support and ensuring that ResSoc meets all regulatory and legal requirements, such as overseeing various aspects of ResSoc's business operations, including regulatory compliance, financial auditing, and contractual obligations.
This is a non-live-in position and is not open to current students. This role involves managing office operations, assisting with administrative tasks, and supporting various Residence Society initiatives. As the ResSoc team changes annually, the Office Administrator will act as the record keeper, maintaining records of past teams and providing guidance during onboarding and throughout the year. Appointed by the President, subject to ratification by the General Assembly, the Office Administrator plays a vital role in maintaining the organization's compliance and integrity.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Administrative and Compliance Oversight:
Ensuring that ResSoc complies with regulations and requirements for registered corporations, including:
Collecting and remitting sales and payroll taxes.
Ensuring timely and accurate payroll administration and distribution of employee tax information.
Maintaining corporate insurance and overseeing the proper storage and disposal of all corporate documents, including human resources and financial files.
Record Keeping and Knowledge Management:
Acting as the ResSoc's knowledge keeper, maintaining records of past and current issues, decisions, and initiatives to ensure continuity and efficiency.
Contractual and Financial Duties:
Serve as a second signatory (along with the President) on contracts and agreements lasting beyond the current academic year between the ResSoc and other parties.
Assisting with paying outstanding debts and balances to external entities.
Audit and Compliance Monitoring:
Initiate and run the ResSoc audit on a yearly basis in conjunction with the CFO to ensure compliance with financial and regulatory policy.
Support and Coordination:
Assisting with hiring when a full hiring board cannot be convened and supporting the Executive team in fulfilling their duties, especially when roles become vacant or incumbents are temporarily unavailable.
Security and Data Management:
Maintaining a secure centralized database of all society passwords, logins, and access codes.
Eligibility Requirements:
All applicants must:
Have extensive experience in compliance, administration, or related fields;
Have a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and legal standards;
Have excellent organizational and communication skills;
Be legally entitled to work in Canada or hold valid authorization (e.g. work visa);
Residency in Kingston, Ontario, to attend in-person meetings and office hours;
Be available to attend ResSoc Residence Staff Training Sessions on-campus at Queen’s University during the last two weeks of August 2024;
Be available for key events, including ResSoc Residence Staff Training Sessions in August (last 2 weeks) and for supporting staff during student move-in and Orientation Week;
Provide, at their own expense, a Police Vulnerable Sector Check conducted during the 2024 calendar year before student staff move-in in mid-August (exact date TBA); and
Agree to abide by all the Queen’s University Residence Staff Contract terms, Residence Community Standards, and ResSoc staff policies.
Compensation:
The Office Administrator will receive an annual salary of $45,000 (approximately $57.69/hr), with the possibility of renegotiation, subject to the consent of the General Assembly.
The role requires a commitment of 15 hours per week, including at least 5 in-person office hours and weekly meetings with the Executive team.
